4 Simple Steps To Cure A Sunburn Naturally

With the spring breeze slowly relinquishing and exiting our lives, it's safe to say that summer, in its full glory, is almost here. Summer is just about starting, but even just a few minutes in that scorching sun can lead to more skin damage than most of us think.

Whether you're planning a beach vacation or have a job that requires you to spend time outdoors, you need to arm yourself with some really important knowledge - how to cure a sunburn naturally. Since you clearly can't carry all of your skincare products with you at all times, this simple step-by-step treatment could save you a lot of trouble.

1. Take a cool shower

Seems kind of obvious, doesn't it? Yet, a lot of us make the mistake of jumping in for a quick shower after a day out in the scorching sun; without fixing the temperature first. Make sure you set the water to a cool temperature before you take a shower. To relieve the pain, you can take frequent showers; but don't overdo it as you don't want to dry your skin further. Pat dry your skin very gently and leave a little water on your skin before moving on to the next step.

2. Moisturize your skin well

Before you jump into the shower, pop your bottle of moisturiser into the fridge. The cool temperature will help soothe your skin along with curing the itch by hydrating. Be very careful though, you don't want to use a moisturiser with chemicals. Try and use a natural or organic moisturiser. One with aloe vera will feel best on your skin. Better yet, if you can get your hands on lavender or chamomile essential oil, massage it gently on the area. It'll help get rid of the sting effectively and efficiently.

3. Drink a lot of water

Remember, your body is dehydrated. The dryness from the sunburn is a result of that. What your body needs is as many fluids and hydrating foods as it can get to recharge and replenish its lost fluids and nutrients. Replacing body fluids will help your body heal much faster from the sunburn.

4. Make your way to the kitchen

There are a few items in your kitchen that can prove to be even more helpful than you thought. We're talking about none other than milk and yogurt. You love drinking and eating them for health purposes, but they can actually help soothe your skin too. Soak a clean cloth in milk, and add a few ice cubes. Apply the compress on the burn for 15 to 20 minutes and repeat every 2 to 4 hours. Similarly you can also apply the yogurt directly onto the patches that feel burnt. The protein and fat in both help keep inflammation at bay.
