Royal Oman Police announces new fines for distracted driving instructors

Is your driving instructor busy on his phone during a lesson? If so, they could be fined up to OMR35 and receive one black point on their driver's license.

Following a large number of complaints from students, the Royal Oman Police has issued new regulations against driving instructors to be implemented from March 1, 2018.

"If the driving instructor is occupied with something other than teaching, they will be fined OMR35 and will receive one black point on their license," ROP said.

Mawra who recently received her driver's license said: "Whenever I had my lessons, my driving instructor would always be occupied with something else. I assumed it was a technique to make me focus on the road and rely on myself.

"I am glad the law has changed because there were many times I needed him to focus on my driving," she added.

Additionally, driving instructors will also be fined OMR10 and receive one black point for not wearing the formal Omani attire.
