Chinese Researchers Develop High-Performance Drone Battery
Chinese researchers developed a new lithium-sulfur battery technology recently. This innovation significantly enhances overall battery performance and efficiency.
The new battery allows drones to fly much longer distances. Drones can now achieve these distances using only a single charge.
Extending Battery Life
Xinhua News Agency reported the exciting findings from the Nature journal. This study paves the way for developing longer-lasting power supplies.
Manufacturers can use these batteries in low-altitude flight equipment safely. Scientists from Tsinghua University led the successful research team.
They wanted to improve energy storage efficiency for drones specifically.
How the Innovation Works
The researchers added an intermediate material inside the battery core. This material actively traps soluble substances that normally cause energy loss.
This clever addition improves chemical reaction efficiency significantly. It also reduces internal battery resistance by an impressive 75 percent.
Promising Test Results
Tests showed the battery maintained stable performance over 800 charge cycles. The prototype retained about 82 percent of its original capacity.
The power density reached 549 watt-hours per kilogram. This density nearly doubles the capacity of many current drone batteries.
This technology will expand the scope of aerial delivery aircraft. It also greatly helps power line inspections and rescue operations.
