Indian PM Modi announces $250bn relief package for India

 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a relief package worth more than $250 billion (INR 20 trillion) to help revitalise his country’s economy, following the impact caused by the novel coronavirus.

In his address to the nation, which was broadcast live on several Indian news channels and widely reported by media houses in the country, Modi said the package was worth 10 percent of the country’s GDP.

He also asked people to buy more local products to help local businesses, and actively promote these so that they would continue to gain popularity and help provide much-needed income to them.
