Gauff And Rybakina Advance To The US Open Quarterfinals In New York

American Stars Shine At Home

American tennis star Coco Gauff easily qualified for the US Open quarterfinals today. She delighted her home crowd with a dominant performance in New York. The fourth seed defeated fellow American Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4. Gauff will now face French Open champion Mira Andreeva in the semifinals. Gauff told reporters she always expects a tough match against Andreeva. Andreeva secured her spot after Anastasia Potapova suffered an unfortunate injury. Gauff joins Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals.

Zheng Stuns Swiatek In A Thriller

World number two Elena Rybakina also advanced comfortably to the next round. She defeated former US Open champion Naomi Osaka 6-1, 6-4. Osaka struggled noticeably with a worsening Achilles tendon injury during the match. Meanwhile, China’s Zheng Chenwen executed an exceptional comeback today. She dramatically knocked out six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek. Zheng recovered from a 0-5 deficit in the deciding set. She became the first qualifier since 2021 to reach the women's quarterfinals. Olympic champion Zheng will now face Rybakina in a highly anticipated matchup.

Zverev Survives A Late-Night Battle

In the men's draw, top seed Alexander Zverev secured a crucial victory. He beat Italy’s Luciano Dardery 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Zverev expressed pleasant surprise at finishing the match before midnight. He previously endured two exhausting five-set matches earlier in the tournament. He noted his rhythm has improved significantly after spending 10 hours on court. Zverev wants to secure his second Grand Slam title this year. He previously won the prestigious French Open tournament last June. Catch all the live sports scores and tennis highlights at Oman Day.
