Over OMR 50,000 in refunds and fines imposed by Oman’s CPA in two months

Muscat: During the months of November and December 2020, the total amount of refunds and administrative fines imposed by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah amounted to more than OMR 50,000, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) announced on Monday

A statement issued online by CPA said: "The total amount of refunds and administrative fines imposed by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah during the months of November and December of 2020 amounted to OMR 53,633 as part of the efforts made by the Directorate to guarantee and defend consumer rights."

The statistical report of the Studies and Development Department in the directorate stated that the Directorate was able to recover amounts of money estimated at OMR 51,633  for the benefit of consumers during the months of November and December, while the total administrative fines during the same period amounted to OMR 2,000.

The recovered sums were distributed over a number of sectors, where the Directorate was able to recover amounts estimated at OMR 11,927  in the sector of labour offices, travel and tourism offices. In the automotive sector, its services, tires, vehicle spare parts and vehicle repair workshops, the refunds amounted to OMR 2,315, as the directorate received complaints in the sector that varied between the sale of unfit for use tires and spare parts that had defects or manufacturing defects.
