Al Buraimi Governorate Advances Crucial Water Reserve And Agricultural Projects

Implementing Modern Agricultural Technologies

The Directorate General of Agricultural Wealth continues vital work in Al Buraimi. They are currently implementing several crucial water projects across the governorate. These initiatives aim to drastically improve local agricultural production efficiency. The government wants to ensure long-term food security and water sustainability. The governorate is witnessing a massive shift toward modern farming technologies. Hundreds of agricultural holdings now utilize advanced irrigation systems and greenhouses. Farmers in the Sa'ara and Al Buraimi oases actively participate in these programs.

Maintaining Traditional Irrigation Networks

Dr. Ahmed bin Saif Al-Amri detailed the ongoing maintenance efforts. He serves as the Director General of the local Directorate. The government successfully maintained 167 traditional aflaj (irrigation channels) recently. Current contracts include repairing the Abu Baqra aflaj for over 84,000 Omani riyals. Another phase of this project will cost an additional 114,000 riyals. The directorate is also drilling auxiliary wells to support the water flow. These historical water networks remain absolutely essential for local agriculture.

Preserving Vital Groundwater Reserves

Protecting groundwater reserves remains a top priority for local officials. Al Buraimi currently operates six massive groundwater recharge dams. These structures hold a combined storage capacity of 3.5 million cubic meters. They capture valley water to naturally replenish the vital underground aquifers. The directorate also regulates well licenses to prevent dangerous water depletion. They use modern remote sensing stations to monitor rainfall and water levels. The local community plays a huge role in preserving this ancient water heritage.
