Al Jabal Al Akhdar Hosts Fourth Edition Of Himam Mountain Running Race

The state of Al Jabal Al Akhdar will host an exciting sporting event next Friday. The fourth edition of the “Himam” Mountain Running Race 2026 kicks off there. More than 1,000 male and female runners will participate in the challenging event. Competitors represent 34 different nationalities from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman. Runners will compete across five mountain tracks featuring varying distances and age categories. Hosting the race takes advantage of the natural and touristic assets of the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The event contributes heavily to enhancing Jabal Akhdar's reputation as an adventure tourism destination. Organizers utilize the incredible diversity of the local terrain, heights, and historic villages.

Challenging Mountain Trails

The race competitions are spread across tracks measuring 50, 30, 20, 10, and 4 kilometers. The grueling 50-kilometer track serves as the longest and most difficult challenge. It starts from “Hayl Al Diyar” and features a cumulative elevation exceeding 2100 meters. Runners must reach the finish line at the Dusit D2 resort within 15 hours. The 30-kilometer and 20-kilometer races will start from the beautiful Wadi Bani Habib Park. The 4-kilometer race from Hayl Al-Yaman targets the 10-14 year age group specifically. This edition also saw the addition of a new "Fun Run" for younger children. These shorter distances enhance the spirit of competition among future generations.
