Breaking: Earthquake measuring 4.5 on Richter Scale recorded off Oman coast

An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter Scale was recorded off the Oman coast on Friday afternoon, with the epicentre around 290 kilometres south of Salalah, according to a statement from the Earthquake Monitoring Centre at Sultan Qaboos University.

A statement from the Centre read, "An earthquake measuring 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale hit the Arabian Sea at 1:37 pm Oman time, and approximately 290 km from Salalah."

Another earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale had been recorded off the coast of Oman last month, on December 19, 2017, around 320 kilometres from Duqm.
