Four arrested after duping, stealing from social media user in Oman
A man who thought he was meeting a female after a social media hook-up was lured to a meeting place and attacked by a gang of four, who robbed him of OMR1,000.
The Department of Criminal Investigation led by the police of Dakhiliyah province, in cooperation with Izki police station, arrested five people on charges of abuse, theft and looting.
An official source in the Royal Oman Police said: "One of the accused had identified the victim through social media stating that he was a girl, and they had agreed to meet late at night. However, the victim was surprised by the presence of four people who beat him and robbed him of OMR1000."
In a different case, the same defendants assaulted another victim by beating him, stealing his money and his mobile phone.
The Department of Investigation and Criminal Investigation also managed, in cooperation with the Izki police station, to arrest a defendant who stole charity funds from several mosques in Izki.
All the accused were referred to the judicial authorities to complete the legal proceedings.
