Local Camel Racing Season Kicks Off At Al-Falij Field

Preserving Authentic National Heritage

The 2026/2027 season of local camel races officially began today. The Omani Camel Racing Federation organized the highly anticipated sporting event. The races took place at the Royal Camel Corps field in Al-Falij. Camel owners and expert trainers arrived from various governorates to compete. Federation Chairman Sheikh Saeed bin Saud Al Ghafeeli praised the event. He stated the season embodies efforts to preserve authentic national heritage. The federation completed all technical and organizational preparations before the launch. They ensure the competitions reflect the high status of camel racing locally.

The Al-Hajaij Category Competitions

The first day featured races exclusively for the Al-Hajaij category. Competitors raced their camels over a challenging distance of three kilometers. Organizers held 18 distinct rounds of racing throughout the busy day. “Shawaheen,” owned by Nasser bin Ghadeer Al-Jadili, won the first round. “Tarab,” owned by Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Wahibi, secured the second round. The competition remained fierce as different owners claimed victories across the rounds. The events continue tomorrow with races for the Al-Laqaya category. These upcoming races cover a longer distance of four kilometers.

Looking Ahead To The Finale

Tomorrow's schedule also includes three rounds specifically for human riders. The federation aims to revive and promote all aspects of the sport. The first stage concludes on Thursday with races for older camel categories. These final races will test endurance over five kilometers.
