Muscat have at least Four Restaurants Closed Everyday
In Muscat, at least an average of four eateries face the closure for non compliance and failure to meet the requirements of regulation. The new Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre had a food and safety conference running a presentation which revealed the same. In 2016, around 20,302 cases of violation in total with 1453 eating joints were closed for not complying with the Food Safety Law of Oman.
This in the words of the NHI Food and Safety Academy Lead Consultant would mean that about four eateries are closed on a daily basis. Out of the 13,443 total warnings in 2016, 37 warnings in total were issued to food establishments everyday.
There have been no fault from the Oman Government while framing legislative measures to deal with threats to consumer safety and public health which would arise from import and consumption of food that is unsafe. If there are repeated violations from the offenders, they would be forced to pull down the shutters for a minimum of six months.
Also, the civic rules states that an eating joint could be closed for a period of up to 10 days with a fine of RO 2,000.
