Muscat Municipality is installing LED streetlights on beaches lining the Qurm area

Muscat Municipality is installing LED streetlights on beaches lining the Qurm area as part of its beautification project of Al Shatti Street.

A municipality official said, “We are replacing yellow lights with the white ones. New lampposts too are being set up. This has been done as part of the beautification process of Al Shatti Street.”

The official said that more people visit the beaches in Qurm in winters. 
“You will find people indulging in sports activities on beaches in Qurm in the evenings. During the weekends, there is usually a huge rush on beaches. Many people also come to spend time with their families. The idea is to encourage more people to visit the beaches.”

He said that the Shatti area has plenty of restaurants and cafés. “It is the city’s most happening area. People throng the places to spend quality time. The beach road near Crowne Plaza Muscat is popular among youths who love showcasing their sports cars. The area is home to some of Muscat’s top hotels including InterContinental and Grand Hyatt. We want to popularise the area among locals.”

The official said that there are similar plans to have such lights in other beaches.

“Our aim is to encourage more people to visit beaches and promote them as tourist hot-spots.”
