Muscat Municipality Signs Agreement To Upgrade Al Salam Street Infrastructure

Addressing Urban Traffic Congestion

Muscat Municipality signed a major infrastructure agreement with AZ Engineers and their partners today. The partners will implement the vital “Raising the Efficiency of Al Salam Street” project. This project supports the municipality’s efforts to develop the road system across Muscat. It aims to provide sustainable traffic solutions to address severe bottlenecks in vital locations. The upgrade will increase the overall capacity of the road significantly. This aligns perfectly with rapid urban expansion and the expected increase in local traffic. The project specifically targets two vital locations experiencing high traffic density on Al Salam Street. Developing these intersections will contribute heavily to reducing stopping times and congestion.

Constructing New Tunnels And Overpasses

The first phase involves developing the Industrial Roundabout intersection at Al Emaar Street. Contractors will construct a tunnel along Al Salam Street to allow uninterrupted traffic flow. The tunnel will consist of two lanes running in each direction. Planners allocated additional space for the future addition of a third lane. This provides the necessary flexibility to increase capacity according to future needs. The site development also includes the construction of new two-lane overpasses. Planners will improve the efficiency of the roads connected directly to the intersection. The second phase involves upgrading the traffic light intersection at Al Khair Street.

Proactive Urban Planning

This phase also includes constructing a tunnel along Al Salam Street with two lanes. Contractors will build two-lane overpasses and free-turn lanes to facilitate smoother traffic flow. His Excellency Ahmed bin Saeed Al Amri chairs Muscat Municipality. He confirmed the project design took current and future community needs into account. He stated the municipality adopts a highly proactive approach in planning road projects. Providing space for future lanes reduces the need for substantial structural modifications later. This strategy achieves optimal use of financial resources and reduces future traffic impacts. Understand the major projects shaping the future of Omani infrastructure.
