Muscat To Install Energy Efficient Lamps in 2018

The Municipality of Muscat would be launching a project to replace the current incandescent lamps with LED lights that are energy efficient on the roads in the  governorate. The aim of the project  that would start at the year 2018 first quarter would be to rationalize consumption of electricity, energy conservation and to achieve the goal of sustained development.The operation period of the project would be around 20 years with the warranty of 10 years.

In the words of the Muscat Municipality, director of lightning, there are many advantages by bringing this project.About 60 percent of the consumption of energy could be reduced by the latest smart lighting technology as the consumption of electricity is reduced along with the cost of maintenance and thus reducing the carbon emission.

To weigh the  pros and cons of the project, a feasibility study for the tested LED lights and the project was conducted by the Muscat Municipality in one of the streets in Muscat.

Finally, a meeting with the supply companies  was held during the Directorate-General of Projects at Muscat Municipality where the plans to develop the road lighting system was reviewed by the municipality.
