Oman and Botswana Launch Massive 500-Megawatt Solar Power Plant

Oman and Botswana reached a major renewable energy milestone today. Officials laid the foundation stone for a massive solar power plant.

The new facility sits in the bustling African city of Maun.

Rapid Implementation and High-Level Support

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and President Doma Gideon Poku met recently. They signed official economic agreements in Muscat just three days ago.

This rapid construction start shows incredible dedication from both friendly nations. President Poku attended the special ground-breaking ceremony in Maun today.

Oman Investment Authority Chairman Abdul Salam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi joined him. Several other senior officials from both nations also attended the event.

Massive Capacity and Battery Storage

The new photovoltaic station will generate 500 megawatts of clean electricity. Engineers will install advanced battery energy storage systems alongside the panels.

These massive batteries also hold a matching 500-megawatt power capacity. This technology guarantees a reliable energy supply during peak demand times.

Energy experts believe the completed station will double Botswana's current generating capacity.

O-Green Leads the Mega Project

O-Green operates as a successful subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority. The company manages this mega project alongside the Botswana Power Corporation.

O-Green CEO Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Hinai praised the rapid progress today. He promised his team will follow the highest international implementation standards.

He views this project as a core integrated energy trading platform. It opens amazing new prospects for sustainable regional economic growth.

Expanding Future Energy Partnerships

This solar plant represents only the first phase of joint cooperation. The two nations aim to develop 3,000 megawatts of total capacity.

The countries also signed vital mining and fuel security agreements recently. OQ Group and Botswana Oil Company will develop joint petroleum infrastructure together.

Oman Mining Development Company will evaluate new strategic mineral exploration opportunities.
