Oman and Canada Sign New Political Consultations Agreement

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi welcomed Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand today. This marks the first official Canadian diplomatic visit in over ten years.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The visit reflected the highly positive trajectory of bilateral relations over fifty years. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.

They agreed to elevate their bilateral partnership significantly. The two ministers proudly signed a memorandum of understanding covering political consultations.

This agreement aims to establish a regular bilateral diplomatic dialogue.

Boosting Trade and Regional Security

The ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across several vital sectors. They will focus on trade, energy, vital minerals, higher education, and tourism.

They also want to strengthen the cultural ties between their two peoples. Both leaders noted the bilateral trade volume reached 222 million Canadian dollars last year.

They stressed the massive potential for further economic growth soon. The ministers exchanged critical views on the ongoing regional conflict.

They emphasized the importance of protecting innocent civilian lives immediately. They strongly support de-escalation efforts and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Minister Anand expressed deep appreciation for the longstanding regional diplomacy of Oman. Both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to international law and territorial sovereignty.
