Promoting Social Inclusion For The Deaf

Oman recently celebrated the International Day of Sign Languages with a major event. Officials hosted the closing ceremony of the Guidance Communication Initiative today. The ceremony took place at the Civil Aviation Authority’s Aviation Hall. The Communication Institute for Training organized this highly successful national initiative. They partnered with the Nafith application and the Omani Human Rights Commission. His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Hamoud Al-Harthi sponsored the closing event. He serves as the Undersecretary for Persons with Disabilities Affairs.

Raising Awareness And Correcting Misconceptions

The initiative works tirelessly to promote the social inclusion of the deaf community. Organizers aim to spread sign language awareness across the entire country. The program helps correct common public misconceptions regarding hearing disabilities. It also informs deaf individuals about their specific legal rights and duties. The initiative promotes positive communication etiquette between deaf individuals and the broader society. Organizers successfully implemented training programs across five different locations. Over 150 government employees and 125 community members benefited from the training.

Building A Sustainable Support System

Organizers plan to expand this vital initiative to all Omani governorates. Oman currently has approximately 17,046 citizens living with hearing disabilities. The program seeks strategic partnerships to ensure continuous financial and logistical support. The ultimate goal is to make sign language a basic, widespread language. The closing ceremony featured presentations on human rights and new communication technologies. Experts discussed the future development of a sustainable sign language empowerment system. These efforts ensure equal opportunities for all members of society.
