Oman-Germany agreement on official passport holders comes into force

The Oman-Germany pact on mutual exemption from Visa Requirements for the holders of Biometric Diplomatic, Special and Service passports came into effect from September 14. The agreement was signed on March 8, 2016.
It allows visa-free travel to Germany for the holders of official Omani passports.

According to a statement issued by the German Embassy in Muscat, “The entry into force of the agreement marks an important step in facilitating travel for Diplomatic, Special and Service passport holders of both countries.

“Holders of official passports are now exempted from the visa requirement for a maximum stay of 90 days within a period of six months. For a stay of more than 90 days or in order to take up employment a visa is still needed.”

The agreement does not automatically include free travel within other Schengen countries. “Holders of official passports wishing to enter or transit through other Schengen countries are advised to seek relevant information from these countries’ diplomatic or consular missions.”

The agreement does not apply to the holders of ordinary Oman national passports who continue to require a visa to enter Germany and other Schengen states.
