Omani Film Festival Opens Call For 2026 Submissions

The Omani Cinema Association has opened submissions for the 2026 film festival. The event supports the growing Omani film movement and local talent. It aims to empower directors, writers, and technical crews nationwide. The upcoming edition features three distinct main film competitions. Filmmakers can enter the short fiction or short documentary categories.

Introducing The Artificial Intelligence Film Competition

The festival also introduced a new artificial intelligence film competition. This addition reflects the rapid technological developments changing the film industry. The festival management allocated financial prizes for the top winning entries. They also established awards for specialized artistic and technical categories. Judges will recognize excellence in directing, screenwriting, and musical composition.

The narrative competition includes awards for male and female acting performances. A special prize honors the best promotional poster across both main competitions. The AI competition features an award for the best film utilizing artificial intelligence. Anwar bin Khamis Al-Ruzaiqi heads the Omani Cinema Association. He stated the festival encourages the entire local film industry.

He noted that developing the industry requires supporting all creative elements. The festival coincides with the international celebration of World Cinema Day. This timing honors the contributions of professionals developing the artistic scene. Allocating individual awards highlights specific Omani competencies in filmmaking. The competition remains open exclusively to Omani filmmakers this year.

Submitted works must be newly produced during 2025 or 2026. The film duration must range between three and thirty-five minutes. Films in Arabic must include a clear English translation. Participants submit their final high-quality files via a direct electronic link. The deadline for receiving applications is November 1, 2026.
