One dead, two injured in knife attack at Oman shopping mall

A police officer has been stabbed to death in a busy shopping mall in Oman.

The incident, at City Centre Muscat mall, happened shortly after 1pm. The attacker was disarmed by police and taken to hospital, according to officials.

Police confirmed one death and two injuries following the incident.

A spokesman for Royal Oman Police said: "Referring to your video clips and photos traded on social media about a murder in Muscat City Centre complex, police confirming the arrest of the accused and the case
proceedings.

"Police indicate that the medium used in crime are white weapon (knife)...the offence resulted in one death and injured two others."

The ROP, meanwhile, has also warned social media users not to circulate the footage of the crime.

"Royal Oman Police mourns the death of one of its members today, while performing his duty. and may Allah bestow his soul with the martyrs and the truthful, and asks all employees of the police to provide condolences to the bereaved family, and we call Almighty Allah to inspire them with patience and fortitude," added the spokesman. "We belong to God and to him we shall return"
