Over 23,000 traffic accidents recorded in Oman by insurance companies
Insurance companies have recorded a total of 23,800 traffic accidents in the first quarter of this year with a 11 per cent increase in claims involving major accidents.
Unaudited quarterly statements of the insurance sector show that there were 4,100 major accidents and 19,700 minor accidents during this period. Claims for minor accidents grew by 9 per cent year-on-year.
The number of claims for deaths increased by 6 per cent year-on-year. While compensation paid by insurance companies for financial damage in minor accidents decreased by 26 per cent to OMR 4.7 million, there was an increase of 300 per cent in the claims for major traffic accidents at OMR 2.45 million.
The volume of compensations paid as Diya (Blood money) for deaths from traffic accidents decreased by 19 per cent compared to the same period last year.
