PACDA, ROP receive more than 100 calls for help during heavy rain in four days
The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA), in coordination with ROP and citizens, carried out several operations for rescuing people trapped in wadis and houses, fire at power stations and pumping out water from affected houses.
These operations were conducted between December 15 and 18 when Oman was affected by low pressure leading to heavy rainfall.
The Governorate of Muscat recorded seven power station fires, three vehicle fires and one school fire. Authorities also dealt with nine cases of stranded vehicles in the Sifah area.
During the same period, authorities in the Governorate of Dakhliyah also received 16 calls by people stranded due to rising water levels, and three calls related to power station fires. The officials also rescued a vehicle that flipped due to wet road. An ill person received medical aid in Wadi al Uq during this period.
In the Governorate of North Batinah, there were nine calls from people who were left stranded in their homes and 29 calls from people after their vehicles got stuck in wadis.
Authorities in the governorate also received 14 calls about power station fires, one house fire call and another about a vehicle fire. In addition, a person was provided medical aid in Saham.
In the wilayat of Wadi al Ma’awel in South Batinah, the authorities helped a person stranded in his vehicle in a wadi.
In the Governorate of North Sharqiyah, there were three calls about vehicles being stranded in wadis and another after a house collapsed due to heavy rain.
In the Governorate of Musandam, the authorities sent out help for a vehicle that was stranded in Wadi al Baih, in addition to a call on rocks falling on a person.
In the Governorate of Buraimi, the authorities dealt with two calls of people being stranded in their vehicles in Wadi Sharm.
Another call registered was to help a citizen pump out water from his house.
Authorities in the Governorate of Dhahirah too recorded three calls related to an electric pole catching fire, house and power station fire.
