South Korea Records a Historic $26.1 Billion in October Export Shipments
A New Milestone for Korean Trade
South Korea reported a substantial surge in its export economy during the first part of October. The Korean Customs Service released new data today highlighting this remarkable financial milestone. The total value of Korean exports reached $26.1 billion in just the first ten days of October. This figure establishes a brand-new national record for the country. It easily exceeds the previous figure of $15.3 billion recorded during the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, imports also rose significantly by 65.5 percent, totaling $22.3 billion. These numbers leave South Korea with a healthy trade surplus of $3.8 billion.
Semiconductors and Autos Lead the Charge
Looking closely at specific sectors reveals where this growth originated. Semiconductor exports led the charge, jumping an impressive 170.9 percent to $12.1 billion. The automobile industry also performed very well, increasing by 82.7 percent to $1.21 billion. Petroleum products climbed 45.6 percent, bringing in $1.75 billion for the Korean economy. Steel products saw a 49.4 percent increase, hitting the $1 billion mark. However, not every sector experienced positive growth during this ten-day window. Exports of ships actually declined by 13.4 percent, dropping to $682 million.
Expanding International Partnerships
Trade with major international partners also expanded at a rapid pace. Exports to China rose by 167 percent, reaching $7.59 billion. Shipments to the United States grew by 159.9 percent, totaling $3.65 billion.
