Sultan Haitham Issues Three New Royal Decrees
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq issued three important Royal Decrees today. These new laws update national urban planning and sports regulations. The Sultan also restructured national health education institutions. We broke down the essential details of each new decree for you.
Urban Planning Law
The Sultan issued Royal Decree Number 58 for the year 2026. This decree officially introduces the brand new Urban Planning Law. The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning will issue the executive regulations.
The government will publish this decree in the Official Gazette. It takes full effect the day after its official publication.
Sports Bodies Law
Royal Decree Number 59 of 2026 governs national sports bodies. Sports organizations must adjust their status within one year. The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth can extend this grace period.
Courts will continue hearing existing electoral appeals until they issue final rulings. This decree takes effect six months after its official publication. The new legislation completely repeals the older 2007 and 2012 sports laws.
Restructuring Medical Specialties
Finally, the Sultan issued Royal Decree Number 60 for 2026. This specific decree officially abolishes the Higher Institute for Health Specialties. The government transfers all institute assets to the Oman Medical Specialty Board.
The Ministry will transfer all teaching staff and employees to this board. These transferred employees will keep their current job conditions and financial grades. The Board of Trustees takes over all academic powers immediately.
Current students will continue their academic programs until they graduate successfully. The Board will officially approve all final certificates and academic degrees. This decree takes immediate effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
