United Nations Expresses Concern Over Armed Conflict In Northern Ethiopia

A Call For De-escalation

The United Nations expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing situation in Ethiopia. Officials noted that the armed conflict in the northern region continues to spread. Hostilities have now reached several neighboring areas, increasing the risk to civilians. The organization issued a formal statement addressing the deteriorating security environment. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint. He urged leaders to de-escalate tensions immediately to prevent further regional instability. Protecting innocent civilians caught in the conflict remains a primary objective. The UN also stressed the need to secure access for vital humanitarian partners.

Supporting African Union Mediation

Humanitarian organizations require safe and unhindered access to deliver assistance to those in need. Guterres warned that continued actions could trigger a much wider and destructive conflict. The international community is closely monitoring the escalating violence in the Horn of Africa. The UN supports regional efforts to find a peaceful resolution. The Secretary-General reiterated his support for the African Union’s ongoing mediation efforts. He urged all parties to re-engage in good faith talks immediately. These negotiations should follow the established framework of the Pretoria Agreement. Restoring peace and stability is essential for the future of the region.
