Oman Illegal Fishing Rose Close to a Quarter Previous Year

The number of people who were caught fishing illegally in the waters of Oman  has risen a quarter almost in 2016 in comparison to the year before.

The fishing violations are monitored by the Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The control program implementation process is on the way to have a crack down on the illegal fishing as stated by the ministry..

 

In the year 2015 alone, the different governorates across the country had a total number of violations that reached 1,504, with 720 in Musandam,344 in Al Sharqiyah, 332 in Al Batinah, 283 in Dhofar, 153 in Al Wusta and 99 in Muscat.

The citizens, sailors and fishermen were appealed by the ministry  to comply with the law of marine fishing and guard the country’s water resources and report  suspicious activities through the Maritime Security Centre hotline.
