Royal Oman Police- Failure to Use Indicators a Traffic Offence

The Royal Oman Police has stated that every driver has to make use of their turn signal prior to moving left or right on a roadway. The signal of intention to turn left or right has to be indicated in advance before turning as per the law. A fine of RO15 will be charged on the motorists who failed to do so.

In the words of the Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) CEO, some people takes the traffic rules lightly and traffic is the language of the road which helps people to communicate effectively with each other. Once the rules are understood and applied rightly, motorists could dodge the dangerous situations. In his words, while driving at high speeds, the brake lights and turn signals though does not require particular skills and it is the communication system that helps us to avert danger.

Stricter punishments has to be given while dealing with the traffic offences.  The reasons as to why people do not follow these rules include the fact that some people does not consider the indicators as significant enough and certain people does not find them even as an offence. In the opinion of an ROP official, driving is an art which requires tact and decency. The turning on of the indicator is a mark of respect to the fellow drivers.

Finally, to ensure safety for oneself and others, one has to slow down before one turns and then use the indicator in a proper manner.
