Tent Pegging World Cup Qualifiers- Group A: Oman, Yemen, Jordan Qualify for World Cup

On Thursday, the sword classes had Yemen clinch the top honours with 116 points followed by Oman with 102. Jordan had 85 while the Great Britain team, which included one woman rider in Jenna Copley, came fourth with 68.5. Qatar finished last with 64.

 

And on the final day of the qualifiers that included Indian File, lance and sword competitions, Yemen riders once again took the gold with 281 points. Oman was second with 270.5 followed by Jordan with 216. Qatar was fourth with 215 and Great Britain ended up with 198.5.

Speaking after the second-place finish, national team coach Mansoor al Mahrouqi said, “I am satisfied with the results as it was a tough competition. We need to be better prepared for the Moscow worlds and we will organise more camps for the team.

“We will know all the teams who will take part in Moscow by end of January when all the qualifiers will be completed.” 

The coach said, “Our core of the team will remain the same with Hamad al Riyami, Hilal al Balushi, Ali al Balushi, Safwan al Maamari and Omar al Hasani.”

H H Sayyid Mohammed al Busaidi, the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, was the chief guest on the concluding day and gave away the awards in the presence of Sayyid Mundhir al Busaidi, the OEF chief and

Mohammed Issa al Fairuz, the ITPF chairman.Fairuz said, “It was a successful event with all the teams coming up with a good show. The first three qualifiers for next year's World Cup have been spotted and we now wait for the remaining seven teams from a pool of 14 teams in the qualifiers that will be held in Australia, Sudan and Saudi Arabia respectively. Russia will directly qualify as the host nation.”
