Shura Council Reviews Massive Transport and Technology Achievements
The Shura Council hosted Minister Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali today. He leads the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The Minister discussed his Ministry's performance during the Tenth Five-Year Plan. He also outlined exciting upcoming projects for the Eleventh Five-Year Plan.
Massive Infrastructure and Logistics Growth
He highlighted significant infrastructure progress from 2021 to 2025. The Ministry successfully executed many strategic transport and digital economy initiatives.
The government launched road projects exceeding 1.2 billion Omani Rials. These vital new roads connect local governorates and improve daily traffic flow.
The land transport sector generated 18 percent more revenue in 2025. Omani ports handled over 143 million tons of cargo recently.
Workers also processed more than 5.1 million standard containers during 2025. Port revenues grew by an impressive 17.4 percent.
Logistics sector investments reached 3.3 billion Omani Rials. Officials signed 18 investment agreements worth over 100 million Rials last year.
Citizens now hold 21.6 percent of all local logistics jobs.
Booming Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence
The Ministry simplified 3,166 different government services recently. IT teams successfully digitized 2,277 important permits and services.
Citizens completed over 48 million digital government transactions in 2025. Private companies invested 79 million Omani Rials into artificial intelligence.
The government proudly launched the Moeen AI language model. Twenty-two companies now specialize in advanced artificial intelligence here.
Mobile broadband networks now cover 99 percent of the population. High-speed fixed broadband connects every single residential unit today.
Cybersecurity, Space, and E-Commerce Success
Oman secured a top global ranking for cybersecurity readiness. The Ministry qualified over 11,000 talented citizens in digital industries.
Omanis now occupy 45.5 percent of all IT sector jobs. Engineers launched an experimental space rocket from Duqm in 2024.
Space sector investments reached 74 million Omani Rials recently. The industry currently supports 25 companies and 401 local jobs.
The thriving e-commerce market reached 288 million Omani Rials. Non-cash financial transactions surged by an incredible 703 percent.
Future Goals for 2030
The Minister then detailed the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for 2026 to 2030. The Ministry aims to finish ongoing road and port projects quickly.
They plan to develop green fuel production at Salalah Port. The government wants the digital economy to contribute 1.5 billion Rials.
Leaders plan to create 14,000 new technology jobs by 2030. They will attract 300 million Rials in foreign technology investments.
