Instagram’s Data Download lets you save all your content offline

After the recent Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook-owned Instagram had promised to allow users control over their data. Earlier this month, an Instagram spokesperson told BGR India about its plans with a new data portability tool. This tool allows users to download all their data including photos, videos and messages. It now appears that Instagram has begun rollout of this new feature.

Get a copy of your Instagram data

To download your data, simply head over to www.instagram.com/download/request/. The page will prompt you to enter your email address. This should be the same email address you used to register your Instagram account.

Enter your Instagram password on the next screen. Once you authenticate yourself, Instagram will process your request. According to Instagram, it can take up to 48 hours to process your data and make it available to you for download.

Instagram also says that since it takes two days to gather your data and send it to you, you would be allowed to request a download file only once every four days.

In case you place an additional data request before the completion of 48 hours, Instagram will ensure it reminds you to be patient.

When BGR India tried downloading data for an account with 164 posts, the download link was available in under 30 minutes. However, while downloading the data, it needed a few attempts due to ‘suspicious login’ errors.

Ever since there have been concerns around data privacy, Facebook has also revamped its privacy policy. In case you want to download data in a similar way from Facebook, Twitter and Google, read our detailed how to here.
