Concerted programmes to enhance Oman’s technological development conclude

The Engineering Village in Oman conducted two separate educational initiatives: “Taroos Visits Oman”and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme both for the teachers and students.

The Taroos initiative was extended support by BP Oman and it is aimed at providing more experience in the field of engineering to students by collating the filed of electronics with mathematics and engineering.

The STEM programme on the other hand will deal with expanding the teaching methods and will also look to introduce theoretical science to the day-to-day lives of all the participants.

It is essentially a programme which is an extension of a global movement and will be based on experiential learning.

“We are pleased to support both initiatives by Engineering Village as we believe these will help in enhancing Oman’s technological development in the field of education. The Taroos and STEM programmes will equip the Omani youth with the crucial skills and knowledge they require to secure a promising future. Such initiatives drive the creation of a well-educated generation that will contribute to the growth of the Sultanate’s economy,” said BP Oman Social Investment Manager, Shamsa Al Rawahi.

Taroos saw the participation of 600 students from across the nation which made it an intensive and dynamic workshop and this helped in chalking out concepts which would be really appealing to the students.

The STEM programme, on the other hand was aimed at 400 students and teachers. It consisted of 24 interactive workshops that took place right through the year for three successive days.

The primary aim of the teacher-specific workshops was to promote project-based learning. The student-based programmes included workshops aimed at transforming ideas into games in a effort to forge an enjoyable learning environment.

“Both initiatives benefitted a great number of students across Oman. These programmes established a platform that helped in bolstering the students’ capabilities, allowing them to excel in their future endeavors. We believe that such initiatives will hone skills of the next generation, thus, leading the Sultanate to be one of the top countries in the field of STEM,” commented Fahad Al Siyabi, Chief Executive Officer of Engineering Village.
