Twenty people have died when a double-decker bus caught fire while traveling in Tak province, Thailand on Friday morning, March 30. Twenty seven other passengers managed to escape the inferno, but they sustained injuries.

As per the Bangkok Post, the chartered bus was carrying the victims from Mae Sot province to their place of work at Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone in Pathum Thani , along with twenty seven other Myanmar workers, at around 1:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Reports said the Myanmar workers have just completed lengthy registration process of their work permits at the Labor Ministry of Thailand when the bus engine caught fire, which spread quickly through the entire vehicle.

The victims were burnt beyond recognition, according to Col. Krissana Pattanacharoen, a Royal Thai Police spokesman.

“We are trying to identify the bodies and also trying to contact the Myanmar Consulate in order to identify the bodies. They are Buddhists, so we’ve got to send them back to their hometown for religious ceremonies there,” Colonel Krissana said.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of fire.
