But Uzun ignored their pleas and went through with his threat, leaving family to find his body when they arrived at his home.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

It is not known how long the video was live for.

But it is the latest in a disturbing trend of suicides committed online in front of potentially thousands of people.

In response Facebook has announced that it will be hiring 3,000 more staff to police content being shared on the online platform.

Mark Zuckerberg recently took to his own Facebook page, writing that he wanted to respond quickly when reports of inappropriate content were made.

A Facebook spokesperson told The Sun: “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy. We don’t allow the promotion of self-injury or suicide on Facebook.

"We want people to have a safe experience on Facebook and we work with organisations around the world to provide assistance for people in distress.”
