Mother, Child Suffer Serious Injuries in Water Heater Explosion in Al Ain

A woman and her child suffered from various injuries when a water heater exploded at a residence in Al Ain. They were transferred to the nearest hospital to receive the appropriate medical treatment.

Major Abdullah Matar al Dhaheri, Head of Fire Incidents at the Criminal Evidence Department in Al Ain, indicated that the reason for the incident was the replacement of a copper safety valve with a type not compatible with or designed for use in water heaters, affecting heat regulation within the device. Salt was thus deposited over time in the valve gap.

Abu Dhabi Police indicated the importance of using water heaters that follow appropriate safety standards. They also urged that they be regularly maintained and checked for safety purposes. Residents are urged not to leave these devices on for too long to avoid potential explosions in future.
