Recent Driving License Ban on Selected Job Categories Is Temporary

Recently driving license ban on a few job categories was implemented that made people concerned about their ineligibility to apply for a DL, but now the General Directorate of Traffic has said that it was a temporary measure and will be lifted once infrastructure projects are completed as cited in ThePeninsulaQatar.

 

Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic disclosed that the ban on many employment classes to apply for driving license is a temporary decision, not permanent. It is on account of the fact that numerous roads are under developments, once the construction is over, the banned professions will be permitted to apply for driving licenses.

The job categories that are not allowed for applying for a driving license include grocers, news paper vendors, barber, porter, security guard, cosmetologist, agriculture worker, mechanics, beautician, mining technician, shepherd, butcher, goldsmith, tailor and many others.

Al Kharji said that there is a direct correlation between the number of vehicle registered and the number of driving licenses citing the current year registration of around 100,000 vehicles. Over the departments efforts to curb traffic, he said that the department depend on awareness among drivers.
