Warning! Emirates is not giving away free tickets

The airline has warned customers from visiting hoax websites.
Dubai-based Emirates airline has urged consumers to stay away from fraudulent websites that claim to offer airline tickets for free.

The airline has also warned it will take legal action against the perpetrators.

A hoax website -- winfreetickets.co -- claims to be offering people two free Emirates tickets if they "take part in a short survey".

According to the website, users have to answer three questions, following which they will be given the two tickets.

Questions include: "Where did you hear about this promotion?", "Have you ever traveled with Etihad Airways?", and "How was your experince with Etihad Airways?"

An Emirates spokesperson said: "Emirates has become aware of fraudulent websites claiming to offer free airline tickets to those who take an online survey. We advise consumers not to click on, or share these links on social media. Emirates is investigating the source of the scam and will take appropriate legal action against the perpetrators."

The hoax website has similar "short surveys" for over 20 global airlines, including UAE-based Etihad and FlyDubai, Singapore Airlines, Australia's Qantas, Germany's Lufthansa, and Air India.

Similar scams made headlines in 2015 and 2016 as well.
