China and North Korea Unleash Monumental New Border Bridge
Connecting the Asian Nations
China and North Korea unleashed a monumental infrastructure project today. The two Asian nations opened the massive new Yalu River bridge. This spectacular structure connects the Chinese city of Dandong with Sinuiju. The opening follows a staggering 12-year delay. The massive bridge spans exactly three kilometers across the water.
Crushing Logistics Challenges
The spectacular new bridge features four wide traffic lanes. Beijing expects this structure to drastically enhance regional economic exchange. Observers believe the bridge will gradually improve logistics efficiency. This new route will relieve massive pressure on the old bridge. The aging older bridge has operated continuously for decades. Over 70 percent of official bilateral trade crosses that specific border.
Overcoming Massive Delays
The old route severely restricted modern commercial traffic flow. It features just one single vehicle lane and a railway line. Russia and North Korea inaugurated a similar bridge just last month. Officials originally expected the Chinese bridge to open in 2014. China finished its side of the construction work very early. North Korea finally completed its required building tasks this year.
