Cadbury Confirms It Has Stopped Making Chocolate

It’s the news chocolate lovers everywhere have dreaded hearing – but today, March 5, chocolate giants Cadbury confirmed they’ve stopped making chocolate.

I can only imagine the horror – no more post-dinner treats, no more snacking at the cinema, no more McFlurry’s when you’re hungover, and yet, what about Easter and Christmas – the holidays made for chocolate….(If my mom’s reading, I mean church)!

To be fair, Easter’s only a few weeks away and what about all those luxurious eggs I’ve had my beady little eyes on?

Well, ok, fear not, things aren’t as bad as what I – and most likely you – initially thought!

As the country continues to suffer from a water shortage, the confectionery company said it’s stopped production at its Bournville site after the water company, Severn Trent, said it would have to cut the water supply.

This bombshell comes just hours after it was announced Jaguar Land Rover halted their production at two of their UK plants because of the ongoing water problems as well.

Jaguar Land Rover halted production at their Solihull site, near Birmingham, after water supplies in Britain were disrupted by burst pipes, they, along with Severn Trent said today.

A spokeswoman for JLR said the company was closed and according to the Mirror, they were unable to say when it would be reopen.

She said:

Due to a water shortage caused by a burst water main, we have had to stop production this afternoon.

Yesterday, March 4, people were warned to use as little water as possible after the severe weather significantly hit supplies.

Storm Emma, which was followed up by freezing temperatures and a rapid thaw, has caused an increase in burst pipes and leaks in the South East, London and the Midlands.

Severn Trent, who serve the Midlands, revealed they were also facing challenges as they worked to keep schools and hospitals open.

In a statement, Severn Trent said:

Due to the recent thaw we’ve experienced, our teams are dealing with a huge number of burst pipes across our region which is putting pressure on our network.

We’ve worked closely with Jaguar Land Rover which has agreed to stop production to help us target our supply.

The Solihull plant, which is usually open 24-hours-a-day, is one of the Indian-owned automaker’s three vehicle production sites in Britain and employs 10,000 people.

In the capital last night, 12,000 households were dealing with no water and emergency bottled water sites were set up to assist.

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust tweeted Thames Water when their taps ran dry, which left patients and medics with no access to water.

One of their tweets read:

We’re still waiting on the water tankers to Springfield Hospital site?

Also can we have 500 bottles of water for patients. Please DM (direct message) ASAP.

Thanks @DrRosena @thameswater for helping to get drinking water on site here. Lots of staff from across the Trust coming in tonight to help hand water out to our wards and patients. #TeamWork #PatientCare pic.twitter.com/imp0DNiXMh

In a joint statement on Sunday evening Thames Water, South East Water, Southern Water and Affinity Water said customers should avoid any ‘non-essential use’:

We’ve seen an increase in leaks and bursts on our network, which we are urgently dealing with as fast as we possibly can.

We’re getting as much extra water into our network as we can and sincerely apologise to all our customers who are currently without water or who have low pressure.

Right now we really need our customers’ support and understanding to help us to get everyone back into supply quickly by avoiding non-essential uses of water, having a shower instead of a bath for example, for the time being.

The companies also advised business owners to check their pipes and to call a plumber if any damage was discovered.

To be fair, I know it might sound a tad selfish but I’m relieved my chocolate supply isn’t going to be running out any time soon.

So to celebrate this little bit of good news, enjoy some chocolatey goodness, courtesy of UNILAD:
Just going to pop to ASDA to stock up on my chocolate…
