Oman Botswana Relations: Foreign Investment

Oman and Botswana Sign Major Strategic Investment Agreements

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq welcomed Botswana President Doma Gideon Poku today. The two leaders met at the beautiful Al-Baraka Palace.

They witnessed the signing of several major international cooperation agreements. These exciting new deals cover mineral exploration and petroleum storage.

The nations will also build a massive solar power plant.

Expanding Economic Diplomacy

Abdul Salam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi chairs the Oman Investment Authority. He stated these agreements perfectly embody modern Omani economic diplomacy.

This success creates strategic relations and quality partnerships abroad. These efforts also attract valuable foreign investments into local sectors.

The two countries progressed rapidly since their initial July 2025 meetings. Leaders translated early diplomatic relations into actual investment projects quickly.

Future projects will target wind energy, logistics, and financial services.

OQ Group and Fuel Security

OQ Group signed a vital agreement with Botswana Oil today. They will evaluate strategic cooperation to enhance African fuel security.

The companies will develop an integrated supply and storage infrastructure. This work builds upon an earlier November 2025 cooperation framework.

OQ CEO Ashraf bin Hamad Al Maamari praised this partnership. He noted OQ uses its comprehensive expertise to serve this collaboration.

Botswana Oil Acting CEO Latelang Chakalisa also shared his excitement. He explained that fuel security remains a top national priority.

Massive Solar Power Project

O-Green signed a major power purchase agreement with Botswana Power Corporation. O-Green operates as a successful subsidiary of the Oman Investment Authority.

They will develop a 500-megawatt solar power plant in Maun. The project includes massive battery energy storage systems as well.

This deal represents the largest renewable energy investment in Botswana. Botswana wants sustainable sources to provide half its electricity by 2030.

President Poku believes Botswana will soon export electricity to others. O-Green CEO Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Hinai confirmed these ambitious goals.

New Mining Ventures

Oman Mining Development Company partnered with Botswana Exploration Investment Company. They will cooperate on mineral exploration and expert geological evaluations.

The companies aim to develop a productive joint mining operation. Geologists will exchange valuable data and build new technical capabilities.

These efforts support sustainable development and enhance the mining sector.
