Before flu strikes, Get Vaccinated

The Sultanate of Oman has seen a considerable decrease in the cases of influenza as the awareness has been spread among people with high risk chances to get affected  before the arrival of the flu season.

For most people the unpredictable flu virus could cause mild or severe illness. The severe illness would result in death among groups that are vulnerable including people with poor health condition, pregnant women and older people.

 

As per the Ministry of Health(MOH) reports, in comparison to the 25 deaths due to influenza that happened in 2015, it has dropped down to eight in 2017. In Oman the seasonal influenza viruses would appear throughout the year as it is a semi-tropical country.

The ministry stated in a circular that right from early September till mid-May, the virus would start spreading.  Compared to the 1,492 cases in 2016, there have been 952 influenza cases found till 10th October this year as per the ministry statement.

The doctors in the city  has reported that only few patients have approached them for treatment of the flu. In the opinion of the ministry, the range of flu cases reported is within its normal limit despite them being in high numbers. The MoH has issued standing guidelines that the flu vaccination could be provided to the high risk group and vulnerable people.

The vaccinations for the flu will be available in private clinics and government hospitals. The virus has been spreading due to confining oneself in air-conditioned rooms with symptoms including coughing, chills, fever, body fatigue and wheezing. By vaccination, one could ensure at least 70 per cent protection.

To prevent the infection from spreading, the persons who are experiencing the symptoms are advised to stay at home as the flu spreads through sneeze or cough. It could even spread by touching the surfaces contaminated by the infection . The transmission of infection would last for long for people with immun

Finally, lots of water has to be consumed by patients of this disease along with taking antiviral medicines and rest to avoid serious complications.
