Government lays out key guidelines for taxis in Oman
The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has issued guideless for the operations of taxis under the new Land Transport Law.
Some of the key points are:
If the journey is not completed for reasons beyond the control of the driver or a sudden breakdown of the vehicle, the passenger pays the pay due for that part of the trip only, and if the driver ends the trip midway for no reason, the passenger is entitled to refrain from paying any fare.
Taxis registered in the GCC countries may enter the Sultanate to transport their passengers and may not pick passengers between two points within the Sultanate.
Taxis may transport passengers from the governorate to the license to another governorate, provided that the following are observed:
Not to engage in activity within any governorate if it is not licensed.
Not to transport passengers on the way back to their governorate.
The fare should be according to the approved tariff
The taxi owner should be
To be Omani.
To be the owner of the road transport vehicle.
He must have a valid driving license valid for three (three) years from the date of issue.
He must not be less than (21) years old and not more than (60) sixty years, and may be extended by a medical report from the accredited health institutions, according to his ability to drive a taxi
Have not been previously caught for driving offense under the influence of alcohol, drug or any psychotropic agent during the three (3) years preceding the application
His monthly salary shall not exceed RO600if he is an employee or a worker in the private sector
Should be literate
To be declared medically fit and the report issued by accredited health institutions
To pass the training course for the driver of the taxi vehicle at the Institute of Traffic Safety of the Royal Oman Police
The driver of the taxi vehicle is required in the following establishment:
To be Omani
Not less than 21 years not more than 60 years.
