Indian PM Narendra Modi to visit Oman



Mahesh Jesrani, a Muscat-based mechanic, who hails from Modi’s home state of Gujarat said that he had already registered for the event and was excited about seeing his PM.

“We watch his speeches on youtube and TV, but watching him speak in person will be wonderful. So naturally, I registered. I’m very excited,” Jesrani said.
 

 

Sangita Rachh, a homemaker whose family comes from Jamnagar in Gujarat revealed that she had also signed up to attend the event.

“Everyone is really excited to see him. I have registered to attend, along with my husband,” she said.

Indian expats were also informed that there would be strict security measures, adding that the kind of items allowed into the Sultan Qaboos Stadium would be restricted.

“Except wallet and mobile phones no other items will be allowed to be taken inside the venue. Further, there is no safe depository at the venue,” the statement said.

“Invitations which will be issued to registered participants are non-transferable and must be carried along with Omani Civil ID Card. No other identity document will be accepted. Date and Venue for collecting the invitations will be intimated to the accepted applicants by SMS,” it added.

Modi is at Palestinian city of Ramallah on Saturday and from there he will travel to UAE. From UAE he will be coming to Oman.

The Indian government is keen to boost economic growth and create more jobs by attracting foreign investment from Oman and elsewhere.

Regular high-level visits and exchanges have been a key feature of this relationship. Visits at the highest level have been exchanged frequently between India and Oman.

From Indian side, President Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma (1996) and Vice-President Shri Krishna Kant (1999) visited Oman. Four Prime Ministers of India have visited Oman: Shri Rajiv Gandhi (1985), Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao (1993), Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee (1998) and Dr. Manmohan Singh (2008). His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said visited India in 1997. His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, visited India in December 2007.
