Nature Tourism in Oman to Get a Boost from Private Sector

As a bid to breathe new life into Oman’s nature preserves by turning them into tourist destinations, they would be run by the private sector.

Plans to hand over one of the protected areas to international or local investors with experience in operating in protected areas like the Qurum Nature Reserve in Muscat would be taken into consideration by the General of Nature Conservation at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs.

The Ministry of Tourism under the management of Tanfeedh and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs would cooperate for the same while transferring the project to private companies.

Creating a partnership that enables all segments of society to contribute actively to the conservation and development of protected areas while  promoting the natural reserves with their economic diversification, without compromising the environmental balance is the aim behind this initiative.

There would be certain guidelines  for the private entities who would conserve these protected areas like not to build complexes and hotels and minimize their impact on the environment, thereby ensuring the main objective for the establishment of the protected area for conservation and protection.
