Oman Begins Rescue Excavations of 25 Ancient Tombs in A’Seeb

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism launched major rescue excavations today. Archaeologists focus their urgent efforts on the Al Mabilah area of A'Seeb.

They plan to excavate 25 ancient archaeological tombs carefully.

Protecting Heritage from Urban Expansion

This urgent historical project precedes new local housing development plans. The Ministry wants to protect valuable heritage from rapid urban expansion.

Officials handle these vulnerable sites using highly specialized scientific methodologies. Furthermore, the Ministry launched a special training program alongside these vital excavations.

Sultan Qaboos University and the University of Nizwa support this training. The Historical Association of Oman also joined this great educational partnership.

Academic Workshops and Modern Technology

Academics currently lead specialized workshops on archaeological survey techniques. Engineer Ali Hamoud Al Mahrouqi directs the national excavation department.

He stated that urban encroachment heavily threatens these historic tombs. Natural flooding also endangers these ancient coastal settlement areas.

Teams will document the site, clean the tombs, and register artifacts. The Ministry uses Quick Response codes to guide modern visitors.

Tourists can scan these digital codes to read fascinating site details.
