Oman created Half a Million Jobs Between 2012-2016
As per the recently released government data above half a million new jobs were created in Oman between the period of 2012 to 2016.
At the end of 2016 alone, the number of workers in Oman’s government and private sectors stood at 2,255,409 as per the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). During the year 2012, the number of jobs created in total were 1,682,574 million which implied that within four years time period, 572,835 more jobs were created in Oman.
Interestingly, the jobs were created during the period of fall in oil prices between 2012 to 2106.
The Sultanate had aggressively pursued a diversification programme to create 25,000 new jobs for Omanis as announced by the Oman’s Council of Ministers. For both government and private sectors, Omanis occupy 429,806 jobs as shown by the statistics. With 195,937 Omanis and 114,566 of them being male out of the 233,869 people working in the government sector as per the data. The data showed that in comparison with the private sector which created 533,600 jobs, the government sector created 39,235 jobs between 2012 and 2016.
Finally, the report revealed that just below a quarter of all Omani employees have university degrees and 27 per cent have secondary degrees.
