Oman Publishes Comprehensive 2026 Culture Statistics Report

The National Centre for Statistics and Information published an important report today. The "Culture Statistics 2026 – Data 2025" bulletin details the national cultural sector. The comprehensive document monitors various cultural fields and activities across Oman. The report indicated the Sultanate housed 34 museums in 2025. This includes 12 government facilities and 22 private museums.

Tracking Museum Attendance And Heritage Sites

Total museum visitors reached 538,729, showing a slight decrease from the previous year. The Museum of Oman Through the Ages welcomed 46 percent of those visitors. The country also recorded 33,775 archaeological and historical sites. Authorities successfully restored 441 of these important historical locations. Sixty-four castles and forts serve as designated tourist sites today.

These historic fortresses attracted 849,146 visitors, marking a 26 percent annual increase. Nizwa Fort recorded the highest attendance among all the tourist castles. The nation also maintains 33 protected nature reserves for conservation. These terrestrial and marine reserves received 185,411 visitors throughout the year. The report counted 497 parks and public squares across the country.

Growth In Performing Arts And Publishing

The performing arts sector featured 27 theaters and 82 theatrical groups. They presented 160 theatrical performances to the public in 2025. The number of books published increased significantly to 1,718 titles. The country also supports 24 newspapers and 30 active magazines. The document restoration sector preserved 49,558 valuable historical manuscripts.

The cinema sector operated 17 theaters showing over 40,000 films. Over 1.7 million viewers attended these cinematic screenings in 2025. The tourism sector recorded 1,475 hotels and accommodation facilities operating nationwide. The government uses these statistics to monitor cultural growth accurately. This data helps institutions plan future artistic and educational initiatives.
