Omani students safe, unaffected by California quake

No Omani students were affected by the earthquake that struck California on Friday, The Ministry of Higher Education confirmed.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Ridgecrest in California, US on July 5, 2019, at 8 pm, causing structural damage, fires, and some injuries.

The ministry said in a statement: "The cultural attaché in Washington, Dr. Talal Al Balochi, confirmed that the earthquake that hit the city of Ridgecrest in California is far from the cities where Omani students live or study."

Al Balushi added: "Thank God there is no harm or injury for any Omani student. Any student can communicate with us immediately after an accident."

Emergency officials and residents of the Southern California desert region are preparing for dangerous aftermaths of the earthquake that caused damage to buildings and gas lines and triggered fires near the epicentre.
