SalamAir launches direct flight to Trabzon in Turkey

SalamAir launched its inaugural flight to Trabzon, Turkey yesterday, opening the path to more flights for tourists to fly from Oman to Turkey.

SalamAir’s CEO, Captain Mohammed Ahmed, flew the trip himself in order to celebrate the occasion.

Ahmed spoke to Times of Oman about the experience: “This is an historic moment for us, as it is the first time a flight has gone directly from Muscat International Airport to Trabzon. Previously, people had to go on maybe a ten-hour flight with transits, but this is a direct flight at a very affordable cost.”

SalamAir’s CEO also announced new direct flights coming to Salalah from GCC countries.

Ahmed said: “Today is a very special day for us because not only are we doing this programme, we are also starting a direct flight from Kuwait to Salalah. This is again a first since there were no direct flights from Kuwait, where people really love Salalah. They used to have to take transits, but now they can take a direct flight for a reasonable cost.”

We are starting Abu-Dhabi to Salalah as well, which will be a boost for the region during the Khareef season,” he added.

According to the CEO, Salam Air will operate four flights a week to Trabzon because of an ever-increasing demand.

Ahmed said, “We saw that the Trabzon demand was extremely high, it has seen the highest growth of booking on any single destination. Before we flew direct, the one flight per day was fully booked so we increased it to three. Now, we run four flights a week and they are still going very full.”

SalamAir also recently announced the arrival of its new A320neo, the third to join its fleet since December 2018.

The narrow-body jet, an update of Airbus’ classic A320 and its best-selling model, has been custom-built for the airline and offers a host of passenger benefits including optimised cabin space, extra stowage space, and greater comfort.

Adel. A. Albanwan, ALAFCO’s CEO commented “I am pleased to announce the delivery of a new A320neo aircraft to Salam Air. This follows our agreement to lease five new A320neo aircraft, with the first of these delivered in May 2019. We are pleased to have Salam Air as our partners and are keen to develop and build upon our long-term strategic partnership going forward. Our agreement with Salam Air signifies ALAFCO’s continued efforts in providing flexible and cost-efficient leasing solutions to the global airline industry”.

The highly sought-after A320neo, boasts significant environmental improvements including a 16% reduction in fuel burn, almost 50% less noise emissions, as well as a 14% lower cash operating cost per seat compared with the previous model. With the added incorporation of the latest engine technologies and aerodynamic improvements, the aircraft ensures the highest standards

of comfort.

The new addition is part of SalamAir’s ambitious expansion plan, which will double the number of A320neo’s in its fleet by the end of the year, as well as increase its network to 29.

The airline, which launched in 2016, currently operates flights to 20 destinations, including three domestic routes and international airports such as Dubai, Doha, Karachi, Kathmandu, Kuwait, and Abu-Dhabi, in addition to the recently launched routes to Tehran, Istanbul, and Trabzon. Additional passenger services to compliment the customer experience on the home-grown airline include options for extra luggage, and seat and meal selection.
