UNESCO Launches the Sultan Haitham Heritage Prize

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq just launched a massive global cultural initiative. The new UNESCO-Sultan Haitham Prize safeguards intangible cultural heritage worldwide.

A Message of Peace from Oman

Dr Aisha bint Hamad Al-Darmaki serves on the State Council. She says Oman always protects its rich cultural history.

Protecting Living Human Heritage

Dr Mahmoud bin Abdullah Al-Abri explained the UNESCO definitions clearly. He directs the Omani National Commission for Education and Culture.

UNESCO defines living heritage as traditional practices, skills, and knowledge. Oman joined the UNESCO heritage protection convention back in 2005.

The Sultanate actively updates its national cultural heritage laws today. The new prize strongly supports youth and empowers African nations.

Oman Leads the Arab World

Oman proudly registered 17 cultural elements on the UNESCO list. These elements include Arabic coffee, camel racing, and the Omani dagger.

The country also registered the traditional Harees dish recently. Oman ranks second across the entire Arab world for these registrations.

The Ministry of Culture actively documents these rich cultural traditions. They maintain a massive national inventory of local folk arts.
